Sunspot Photographs

 

The Swedish Solar Observatory is located on the island of La Palma, in the Canary Island group of the Atlantic Ocean. Astronomers there have constructed a large 1 meter diameter telescope devoted to study of the Sun. Click on the image below to see the full and high resolution image.

The image above shows the scale of this sunspot in comparison to the Earth, and the image below is a close-up of the edge of a sunspot. These pictures are just so incredible. All of the images are from the Swedish Solar Observatory.
